Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days runs October 6-7, 2026 — 48 hours of Prime-member-only deals across dozens of categories. Specific deals don’t go public until right before (or during) the event itself, so treat this as your game plan for the sale, not a locked-in list. We’ll be updating this page live once deals go active, so bookmark it and check back on the 6th.

Categories Actually Worth Watching

Based on past Prime Day / Big Deal Days cycles, these are the categories that tend to see real, meaningful discounts for hikers and backpackers — not just token markdowns:

  • GPS & hiking watches — Garmin in particular tends to run genuine discounts on older (still excellent) models during these events.
  • Coolers — YETI rarely discounts, which is exactly why Prime Day is one of the few times it’s worth waiting for.
  • Backpacking stoves — Jetboil and similar integrated canister systems show up in deal cycles regularly.
  • Portable chargers & power banks — a category that discounts hard and often during every major Amazon sale event.
  • Trekking poles and headlamps — smaller ticket items, but reliably discounted.
  • Hiking daypacks and backpacks — worth checking, though the deepest discounts tend to hit older colorways/models rather than current-year releases.

How to Actually Get the Deal (Not Just a Discount)

  • Know the real price history before you buy. A “40% off” badge means nothing if the “original” price was inflated first. Check a price-history tool (CamelCamelCamel is the standard one) before assuming a Prime Day price is actually good.
  • Early access is real. Amazon typically lights up some deals before the official start — Prime members with Amazon devices, Kindle, or certain categories sometimes get early access. Don’t assume everything drops at the exact same moment.
  • Add it to your cart, don’t just wishlist it. Lightning deals and limited-quantity deals can sell out; a cart holds your spot better than a wishlist does.
  • Don’t buy gear you don’t actually need just because it’s discounted. The best Prime Day purchase is something already on your gear list — not something you’re talking yourself into because the badge says “deal.”

What We’re Doing With This Page

Once the event goes live October 6, we’ll swap this framework out for the actual deals worth grabbing — real prices, real links, updated as they change over the 48 hours. Check back then for the specifics.
